"Engineer, I need more power on engines if we're going to outrun these raiders!", says the Captain.

"Captain, our gunner needs power too if we're going to fight them off!", retorts the Engineer.

"Alright, cut power to our radar array then and transfer it to my station.", suggests the Captain.

Radar guy: "Oh sure cut the radar first, I'm sure not being able to see the enemies coming at us won't have any serious ramifications".

Meanwhile the enemies are destroying their treads one by one...

Project Sandcrawler (a codename) is a 1-8 player game in which you and your friends team up and pilot a building-sized giant tank around a desert world performing various missions like transporting people, goods, and special supplies. Visit trade cities, mines, outposts, and more. Work together as pilot, gunner, engineer, and radar tech. Even venture outside the ship to explore abandoned mines and derelicts.

Uncover ancient secrets that have evaded discovery for thousands of years...then fight them off! Or join them!

This game is inspired heavily by games like Barotrauma and a bit of Lethal Company. I really like Barotrauma, but it's a bit hardcore for me. The learning curve is a bit steep, and the way they added depth -- via skill trees, crafting, upgrades, new ships -- seems almost deliberately antithetical to a squad party game, since it requires dedication and significant time to get through a playthrough, if you don't die horribly and repeatedly to mudraptors first. I want a game I can play casually with friends who haven't played much before as well as more intensely with a crew in it for the long haul.

I'm hoping my game will do an even better job of camaraderie and story generation than Barotrauma while being accessible to new players and more "drop in"-friendly. I'm a moonlighting solo developer, but we'll see how far I get. I've only been working on this for 10 days or so (at time of writing) so I have plenty more work to do.
